Hawaii Indigenous Species

Indigenous means: having originated in and being produced, growing, living, or occurring naturally in a particular region or environment. Thanks to Hawaii’s remote location, ancient history, and unique way of life, the many of the indigenous cultures and
traditions from the times of ancient Hawaii have been successfully maintained until today. For people who are looking at Hawaii homes for sale, the indigenous nature of the islands has an intriguing allure. Wind, waves, and wings have brought various
species of life to Hawaii from abroad. Today, many of those species are native to the island chain. Through speciation, many of the non-native plants and animals that came to Hawaii have developed into their own, unique species found nowhere else in the world. The isolation of Hawaii and its tropical environment has fostered the growth of a vast array of endemic flora and fauna. Hawaii is also home to more endangered species than any other place in the nation. Unfortunately, Hawaii has also lost more of its endemic species relative to other places as well. Nonetheless, the various subcultures that are maintained in Hawaii – rain forests, volcanoes, deserts, tide pools,
oceans, and everything in between – provide an essential and interesting backdrop to life in Hawaii.
